At Ósar Youth Hostel you will find an excellent seal watching location, with a hiking path leading from the hostel down to the shore. It is also possible to park the car at the Hvítserkur parking and walk straight down from the parking, following a small trail to the shore. Please do now climb down the steep hill leading down to Hvítserkur itself, for it can be quite dangerous. You can often see between 100 and 200 harbour seals resting at the sandy beach on the east side of Sigríðastaðaós water mouth, and often some playful seals in the sea. A marked eider duck nesting area is close to the seal watching location, and travellers are asked to show consideration, especially during nesting season (May-June).
The Great Seal Count in 2007 (August 25th) showed 193 seals at Sigríðastaðaós water mouth.
