Hindisvík has been one of Northern Europe’s most popular seal watching location for over fifty years. According to the landowners, the number of seals in the haul-out site has decreased rapidly during the last few years, possibly because of the high number of tourists in the area. Therefore they have made the decision of closing the site for outside traffic (from the summer of 2008).
The Icelandic Seal Center’s research team will observe the seals in Hindisvík and see if the number of seals hauling out in Hindisvík will increase during the next couple of years due to less tourism traffic. Research contact is
