A vast number of tourists has been traveling out to Vatnsnes peninsula this summer according to farmer Guðmundur Jóhannesson in Illugastaðir which estimates that around 10.000 people visited Illugastaðir seal watching location from late July to late August. Biology student Helgi Guðjónssonf from the Icelandic Seal Centre has been doing research work at Illugastaðir this summer, looking at how tourists affect the behaviour of seals.
