Learning something new every day
2010.06.28 10:13:32
Hi everybody!

We are Laila and Ester, the two Spanish volunteers. This is our first time in Iceland. We arrived at the begining of June and we will be here until the begining of September.
We are taking part in two projects: one that studies how toursim affects the seals behaviour and other that wants to find out the relationship between seals and salmonids.

Our main tasks are to count seals and to observe their behaviour. We count seals in seven points. Some of these points are Svalbard, Illugastadir and Osar, three well known seal watching places.
Apart from that, we also take part in other activities related with these projects, such as: to tag seals, to do lab work or to collect faeces.

This is a great experience for us. Everyday we learn something new.
On the other hand, we are also enjoying a lot our day by day life here in Hvammstangi; since its wonderful landscapes to its friendly and helpful inhabitants. One of the things we love is to take long walks arround the area in our free time. Besides, we like bird watching so one of our personal goals during our stage in the Vatnsnes peninsula is to learn at least one new species of bird per week.

That is all for the moment. We will tell you more in the next blog. Meanwhile, we will try to enjoy our Icelandic experience as much as possible.

Keep in touch,

Laila and Ester
